You're in Debt, but you are not alone. - The Credit Card Industry and Your Credit Options

Currently, there are well over a billion credit cards in circulation. The average American household carries a debt burden of more than $10,000. Approximately 60% carry the balances owed from month to month. In fact, Americans owe more in credit card debt than they do for education. Since 1997, credit card issuers have nearly doubled the amount of credit they offer to consumers, to more than $3 trillion dollars. In fact, credit card loans have had the fastest growth of any type of consumer loans. Between 1997 and 2002, revolving debt increased from $554 billion to $730 billion, the vast majority coming from credit cards. During the same period, between 1997 and 2002, credit card companies increased the number of mailed solicitations to consumers from 3 billion to 5 billion. To put it into perspective, about 50 mailings/offers went out to each American Household in a year, not including telephone solicitations, TV commercials and all other forms of advertising.

It's no wonder why so many people find themselves in need of a debt management program.

Credit card companies earn about 75% of their revenues from the interest paid by borrowers who do not pay in full each month. Industry analysts estimate that making minimum monthly payments on a credit card with a balance of $2,500 will take 34 years to pay off and would exceed 300% of the original principal balance owed. If you are faced with overwhelming debt, you may not know all of the options available to you - Credit Trust Group is an unprecedented FREE service that will offer you objective advice and reputable referrals established through our affiliate network of debt consolidation and debt management companies. Making Minimum Payments - This option benefits your creditors. This is where they make 75% of their revenues. As a general rule of thumb - it will take you 6 years for every $3,000 owed to get out of debt. If you owed $20,000 it will take you over 36 years to become debt free. At the end of that time, you will have paid back over $60,000 in principal and interest.

Credit Counseling and Debt Management Plans - If you are over extended and are just maintaining minimum monthly payments, credit counseling may be right for you.

By participating in a credit counseling program, you may be eligible for a reduced interest rate on your principal balance owed to your creditors. They will assist you with budgeting plans and educational programs to help you understand the risks of carrying unsecured debt. You must have sufficient income to quality for this program and most likely will be required to close your account with your creditors.

Home Equity Loans - Homeowners who qualify may find it more advantageous to take out a home equity loan to pay your credit card debts off. . In the process, unsecured debt becomes secured and therefore you may get some tax advantage. You may maintain your good credit while lowering your payments.

Debt Settlement/Debt Negotiations - If you have lost the ability to maintain your minimum payments required from your creditors or are experiencing a Financial Hardship and DO NOT want to file for Bankruptcy; debt settlement maybe right for you. Most creditors will accept a cash settlement on the balances owed, rather than selling the balance to collection agencies for pennies on the dollar or spend additional funds and resources attempting to collect on the debt. Although this is the quickest way out of debt, besides bankruptcy, there are some inherent risks involved. You are still susceptible to collections, judgments and wage garnishments until your accounts have been settled and your credit rating will most likely be affected.
